LUMLEY LODGE HELP BARNARDO'S

In February of 2008 Lumley Masonic Lodge at Skegness and Lindsey Masonic Lodge at Louth, were approached by Barnardos, to assist in raising funds for a wheelchair/bicycle system, known as the 'Draisin Plus ' costing £3600.

This was initially for the use of a profoundly disabled young lady, to enhance her life, she is deaf, blind and without speech, and eventually for the use of others under their care. Recently, Barnardos had obtained the use of a system and the young lady went for an outing to Cleethorpes, where she was taken along the seafront in it, by one of her carers. They have said that she was delighted by the feeling of movement and the breeze in her face, something most people take for granted.
The Members of the two Lodges were unanimous in their immediate support for this cause. They felt that, here was a young lady who has had, and will need total support for the rest of her life, and they were delighted to be able to help in bringing some enjoyment in to it. She had obviously fought hard for scraps of enjoyment and to survive and we could only marvel at her courage and fortitude. The Charity had already raised the bulk of the money required, and the two Lodges very quickly raised the outstanding amount of £1126, from raffles and a substantial donation by a member of Lumley Lodge.  The cheques were presented to Cynthia Selick and Janet Richardson, two of Barnardo's Young People Advisors, at there offices at Meridian House, Louth on Friday 12th May 2008 by Right Wosrhipful Brother Gordon Walkerley Smith, The Provincial Grand Master for the Masonic Province of Lincolnshire. He was accompanied by other Senior Members of that Province and the Master and Charity Stewards of the two Lodges.
